'Orange and Smith detective agency here ma'am. How may we help you?' I asked the woman as she came into the room.

Molly kicked me under the table. I turned to face her and mouthed 'what?' and she mouthed back 'ma'am? What are you? Some American butler?'

We both turned back to see the lady staring at us.

'I'm not interrupting you, am I?' The lady asked sarcastically.

'Or course not.' Molly said without a beat. 'What is it that you need?'

Since Molly and I had got out of school, we'd opened up this agency in our spare time. Wow, the way that was just written sounded like we'd escaped from high school. It wasn't that bad, although Molly and I both disagreed about certain aspects of it.
