"Hurry up Missy. Get in the pool."
"No! I can't"
"Ahhh, yes you can. I thought you got over your fear of blue things." Hanna said.
"Well of course I am over my fear of blue things, except for that hideous jumper Mum makes me wear. And that tiny teddy near my bed, that gives me the heebie-jeebies!" Missy answered.
"Then why aren't you getting in the pool?" Hanna asked.
"Because I tanned my legs and it'll run away if I get in the water." Missy replied.
"Runaway, like you're brain!" Hanna added under her breath.
"You idiot! Why did you tan?" Hanna asked.
"Because of the dance competition tomorrow." Missy added matter-of-factly.
"We were supposed to do that together tonight." Hanna added.
"Ohhh, really?" Missy asked.
"Yes you noobe! We'll tan when we get back to my place." Hanna said, and pulled Missy into the pool. She was then surrounded by a pool of orange, as her tan washed away.
The other swimmers swam away.
"Way to clear a room Missy!" Hanna teased.
"Shut up Hanna!" Missy complained, swimming towards Hanna, in the aim of pushing her under water. All she managed to do was semi-drown, very ungracefully I might add.
After swimming, they headed back to Hanna's house.
"So what are we gonna do tonight?" Missy asked.
"Well I thought we could start with a couple of episodes of Avatar, a bit of frozen meals and finish it off with a coating of tan!" Hanna answered.
"Ewwies!" Missy began. "I don't want to eat something frozen! Yuck!"
"SMACK!"
"OWW! Why did you hit me on the back of the head?" Missy asked, rubbing her head.
"I don't know if they have them where you come from Missy, but there's this thing called a microwave now." Hanna explained.
The rest of the evening went by uneventfully, except when Missy put the DVD in upside down, and screamed at a mouse on the ground. Although that turned out to be her own foot moving along the ground.
"Tanning time!" Hanna exclaimed, in fake excitement.
"Golly good!" Missy exclaimed in response.
Hanna turned to face her. "Golly good? Where did that come from?"
"I dunno, I think I heard that's where famous people live." Missy answered.
Hanna cried out in pain to this answer. "You idiot! That's Hollywood!"
"Ohh, well anyways. Tanning time?!" Missy stated.
Hanna and Missy made their way to the bathroom where they produced a tan bottle and hairdryer. Hanna's mum walked passed and asked in astonishment "hair dryer?"
"Yeah, tanning isn't possible without a hairdryer!" Both girls explained.
For the next half hour, they sprayed and hair dried, and hair dried and sprayed.
By the end, they could have been confused with carrots!
After watching hours of Avatar and praying to the Tan God, Hanna and Missy headed to bed.
"Snoreee..." Hanna sniffled.
"Thump!" Missy hit Hanna with a pillow that she found lying on the ground; obviously she hadn't eaten it when she'd had that marshmallow dream.
After hours of sleeping, as one usually does at night, they woke up.
"Yay! Dancing today, get up Squidge!" Missy said.
Out came the wigs, make-up, and everything else. The before shots were taken, only breaking the camera lens once. After 30 minutes of intense work, especially in the case of Hanna, the work was done. The girls were unrecognisable.
"Yay! We're at the dance hall." Missy exclaimed, walking into the same dance hall that was used for the past decade.
"Yippee!" Hanna said sarcastically.
Their teacher walked up to them and asked "Are you girls ready? Focused?"
"Yeah." "Yes."
After 5 minutes of practicing, focus was lost.
"Hanna stop drooling." Missy laughed, as Hanna danced straight into a wall.
"THUMP!" Hanna rubbed her backside, as she scrapped herself off the floor.
"Are you okay?" Missy asked, with a giggle.
"PLOOF!"
"Owwies!" Missy exclaimed, as Hanna's shoe hit her between the eyes.
"Oh, that's right. I forgot. He was a redhead." Missy burst into laughter, ROFLing on the ground.
"Shhh!" Hanna hissed at Missy, even though her thoughts were elsewhere.
"Alright, I'll help you with the guy ..." Missy's voice trailed away, as her eyes were drawn to someone else.
Let's establish this right now; this is not a teenage girly love memoir, but a completely true account. If these guys interrupt this perfectly real story, I can't help that.
Anyway, back to Missy's lost train of thought, although that's not all she usually loses.
"Missy, are you okay?” Hanna asked, as Missy stopped in mid conversation.
"What? Me? Yeah I'm fine, why'd you ask?" Missy replied.
"Maybe because you are frozen in one spot or look more lost than usual." Hanna added.
Hanna finally looked were Missy was looking.
"Ahh, I see." Hanna giggled, as she looked over at a really tall and tanned blonde guy.
"Oh stop it Hanna. We have to focus, there's a lot of pressure riding on us today." Missy woke up from her trance.
"Yeah. Hanna. There's one other team, you noobe!" Hanna laughed.
"Hehe, noobe? I haven't heard anyone say that in ages." A voice said from behind them.
"Well, then you just live under a shell..." Hanna began, before turning around to find herself face to face with the redhead she'd been checking out earlier. He was quite tall, and not overly tanned. You know, he didn't look like he'd spent a year getting spray tanned.
"You u u..." Hanna stammered, completely surprised. So surprised in fact, that she took a step back in surprise, and got her foot caught on Missy's bag.
"Arghh!" Hanna exclaimed, as she fell, plummeting to the ground. Falling through the air, all one metre of air.
Then a hand reached out and grabbed her before she hit the ground. The redhead then pulled her close to him.
"Are you alright?" He asked.
Hanna got herself out of his grip and said, "Yes I'm fine thank-you." Hanna then went to walk gracefully away, determined not to show any weakness. She then walked straight into a door.
"So you don't need my help?" The redhead said to Hanna, as she rubbed her head.
"I'm Connor by the way." He added.
There was silence.
"Her name's Hanna." Missy broke the silence. "You could at least tell him your name, seeing as he did save you a couple of times." Missy added.
"Missy! Hanna!" Their dance teacher called. The girls then rushed away, realising that they should probably get dressed before going on stage.
"I'm so nervous." Missy said.
"Nervous? Missy, we're the only team dancing." Hanna laughed.
The dance went pretty well, even though Hanna pointed to the music player instead of the judge, and Missy's semi-bleeding nose, that was a result of smacking herself in the head, looked great with the dress.
"Well it could have been worse." Hanna said, as they walked down the stairs.
"Yeah, we remembered the dance." Missy began, as she slipped on the last step. She then cradled her finger, which she'd jarred on the step.
"Do you need a tissue? Or a bandage? Or how about one of those big round dish things those dogs wear to stop them scratching?" The blonde guy she was looking at before asked, when the girls were making their way passed the audience.
"All. Please. But not that dog thing thanks." Missy replied, then added. "Hey, that's not funny. I'm not a dog!" Missy finally realised what he'd said. Hanna laughed, then explained "She's a little slow with some things."
"No. I didn't mean that at all. You don’t look like a dog; you're quite the opposite actuHanna. It's just that you seem to be prone to hurting yourself. Nothing personal." He added to Missy.
"Not personal at all. And I'm not prone to hurting myself." Missy added.
"Right..." The guy said sarcastically. "I've only seen you smack yourself in the head, slip on a step and jar your finger. In 5 minutes." He added.
Hanna went to the toilet, as Missy pocked her tongue out at the sarcastic boy.
"Mature. Very mature." He said in retaliation.
"Well you started it. Calling me a dog." Missy said.
They both walked towards the back of the hall, in search of tissues, bandages and the dog collar thing.
"Well, thankyou for calling me a dog," Missy began, rummaging through her dance bag. "But I have all I need here. I come prepared." She finished, showing her bag, which looked like a first aid kit, closet and pantry in one.
"Well, I gotta help you. You'll probably get a paper cut on the edge of the bandage tape. I'm William, by the way."
Missy began splinting her fingers, doing a pretty good job. She may be slow and clumsy, but that has an advantage; now having an infinite amount of medical knowledge.
"Coolies. I'm Missy." Missy began, then paused, seeing Hanna finally returning.
"What took you so long?" Missy asked.
"I had to give you two sometime alone, didn't I?" Hanna whispered back.
"PuNcH!" Missy punched Hanna on the arm.
“That was great girls.” Their teacher said, patting each of them on the back.
“Well girls, time to get some lunch?” Their mums asked. They all piled out of the hall in search of the sausages.
Hanna and Missy sat under a tree eating their sausages, while their mums talked to some other dancing mums.
“Mind if we join?” Both William and Connor were standing in front of them.
“Ahh. Sure. Alright.” Missy answered, wondering why these guys were here and why they wanted to sit with the Yeti twins.
“Okay, I gotta put this out there. Why are you talking to us?” Hanna asked.
“Yeah, and why do you wanna sit with us?” Missy added. Hanna hit her in the arm, for sounding like an idiot, again.
“What?!” Connor said, taken aback.
“Dude, they think we’re stalkers, or something.” Will clarified.
“That hadn’t crossed my mind, but thanks for the heads up.” Hanna said.
They all looked at each other, wondering what to do next.
“So…” Missy began. “How do you guys know each other? I just assumed that you were total strangers, and now you gang up and actually end up being friends.” Hanna nodded in agreement.
“Well, we sort of know each other.” Connor began.
“Yeah, we go to the same school.” William added.
Missy giggled, which made everyone stop and look at her. She had checked out this random guy, and Hanna had nearly run over his friend. It was sort of a small world
