The Fairvail Tale
Hana and Cornelius Fairvail had five wonderful daughters. The eldest was Anna who was sixteen. She looked just like her dad. She had blonde straight hair and blue eyes. The second eldest was Margaret who was fourteen, had black straight hair and had beautiful shining green eyes. The third eldest was Ellie who was Margaret’s twin but looked nothing like her. Ellie looked exactly like her mother with brown wavy hair and big brown eyes. Isabelle was second youngest and was thirteen. She looked exactly like Ellie. Now the youngest was eight and was extremely cute. Her name was Cookie and looked just like Margaret. Their neighbours were Mr. Jack Buroun, with his son Tom, seventeen and his daughter Sallie, eight. On the other side was Mrs. Harowbary with her sons Daniel and Neddy, who were fifteen years of age. Isabelle’s friend was Josephine Phillips who was thirteen. Josephine also had a twin brother named Gorge. Hana did not have a job because she looked after the house. Cornelius worked as a doctor. Cookie was still young and had to go to school. Her teacher was Mr. Gable, a kind and gentle man. Ellie was a dance teacher at the shop around the corner. Margaret liked to draw. She would usually draw down the road at the park. Isabelle stayed at home to help her mother out and did the shopping. Anna loved to write books. She had written many books but kept them on a bookshelf at home. The Fairvail house was not very big to you and me but to them it was perfect. On the ground level there was a kitchen, a dining room, a living room and a bathroom. There was also another room with musical instruments in it. There was a staircase beautifully decorated with ribbons and streamer. On the second level there were five bedrooms and another bathroom. The first bedroom was their parents, the second was the guest bedroom and the third bedroom belonged to Anna. Margaret and Cookie shared the fourth bedroom and Ellie and Isabelle shared the last bedroom. There was another little stairway that lead up to a big attic. The girls split the attic into six sections by using curtains. One section was Anna’s, which had a desk, some things to write with and a bookshelf filled with books she had written. The second section was Margaret’s, which had an art stand and some pictures to draw. There was paint, paintbrushes and a drawer full of her paintings. The third section was Ellie’s. In Ellie’s section there was a small table, a chair, some pencils, a box and her dance shoes. In the box there was her diary, which she wrote in every day. There were photos, letters, a list about dancing and lots of other things that were very special to her. The fourth was Isabelle’s, which had a table, a chair, a little drawer and on top of the drawer was some paper for her music. Isabelle loved music and often gave a concert for her family. In her spare time Isabelle wrote music but no one else knew about it because she kept it in a drawer and only played it when no one was about. The fifth section was dedicated to Cookies things. Cookies had a desk, a chair, some pencils to write with and her schoolbooks. The sixth section was their meeting section, which they would all meet in and discuss what had happened that day. The girls would then split up and go to their own sections.
The date is January the 23rd, 1921. Ellie usually left at six in the morning to go to work. But today she had slept in and left at seven. Luckily all her students had done the same. Now the time was nine o’clock and Margaret just left for the park. Anna had just started to write in her section of the attic, when Isabelle called out to her saying that Cookie wanted her to walk her to school. Everyday Cookie had to walk to school. But she was to young to walk by herself so the family took turns to walk with her. Today it was Anna’s turn. Anna hurried down to help her sister get ready. Anna walked Cookie to school and she just made it. Anna dawdled home. On the way she met Tom from next door saying that down the road a baby had just been born. Anna loved babies so followed Tom. When they got there they were allowed to see the baby. The mother said its name was Joan Beatrice. Tom and Anna thought the name was lovely. Tom invited her to lunch later. Anna agreed. Tom walked Anna home and as they got home Isabelle was walking towards them. Isabelle called out to Anna saying that she forgot Cookies lunch. Anna said good-bye to Tom and ran to Isabelle. She grabbed the lunch and ran back to the school. When she arrived Cookie was waiting for her. Anna gave her the bag and ran back home. Anna got back home five minutes later. Her mother was setting up for a party for the baby down the road. So Anna left her alone to go to her thinking table (also known as the attic!). Isabelle left to get the food for the party. Anna was writing a story called ‘magic’. Cookie was having a small playtime. Isabelle was just looking for the milk at the supermarket. But kept losing her way. Ellie was having a break at the shop for a quick walk to the park to visit Margaret. This was the first time she had done this in a long time. Sure Ellie knew that Margaret was fine but she wanted to see her latest drawing. When she got there Margaret was drawing an outline of a painting called ‘Dragon Dream’. It was just the start of the painting but it was really quite good.
